Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about our approach, services, appointments, insurance, and what to expect when getting started.
1. Do I have to have an eating disorder to work with one of your dietitians?
No. While our team has extensive experience supporting people with eating disorders and disordered eating, we also work with clients seeking support with intuitive eating, medical nutrition therapy, nutrition to support movement goals, and a variety of other nutrition and health concerns.
2. What types of nutrition concerns do you work with?
Our dietitians support a variety of nutrition needs. In addition to the conditions mentioned above in #1, we also offer dietary counseling and support for diabetes, GI and gut health concerns, celiac disease, POTS, MCAS, heart health, PMOS, and other individualized nutrition needs.
If you're unsure whether your needs are a fit for our practice, you're welcome to reach out.
3. What is the difference between an eating disorder and disordered eating?
Eating disorders are diagnosed conditions that involve significant disturbances in eating behaviors and related thoughts or emotions. Disordered eating can include difficult or distressing patterns around food and body image that may not meet the criteria for an eating disorder.
You do not need a diagnosis or label before reaching out for support.
4. What is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive Eating is an evidence-based, non-diet approach that helps people develop greater awareness of their body's needs and build a more trusting, flexible relationship with food.
Rather than relying on rigid food rules or dieting, it encourages listening to internal cues while considering your individual needs and circumstances.
5. How do I know which dietitian is right for me?
You don't need to decide before contacting us. If you have a provider preference, you can let us know. If not, we'll consider what you're looking for, provider expertise, availability, location, and other relevant factors to help determine who may be a good fit.
6. Do I need a referral to get started?
No, you do not need a referral to get started.
7. What happens after I submit the Get Started form?
Once we receive your inquiry, a member of our team will follow up to learn more about what you're looking for and discuss possible next steps, including provider availability and scheduling.
8. What should I expect from an initial consultation?
Your initial consultation is an opportunity to talk about what brings you to Rising Root Nutrition, share your history with food, movement, and body image, ask questions, and learn more about what working together could look like.
9. Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes. All of our dietitians meet with clients virtually.
10. Do you offer in-person appointments?
Yes. We meet with clients in person at our Chicago office, located at 3047 N Lincoln Avenue.
11. What states are your dietitians able to work with clients in?
We meet with clients in person and virtually in Illinois.
We can also meet virtually with clients who live in AZ, CA, CO, FL, IA, IN, MD, MI, MS, NC, OH, RI, TX, UT, VA, and WI.
Our providers' availability varies based on state licensing and other requirements. When you reach out, let us know where you're located and we'll help determine which providers may be available to work with you.
12. Do you accept insurance?
Rising Root Nutrition is in network with BCBS PPO and Blue Choice PPO.
13. What if I don't have BCBS PPO or Blue Choice PPO?
If you are out of network, we can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Out-of-network coverage varies depending on your individual insurance policy.
14. How do I know if my insurance will cover nutrition counseling?
Insurance coverage varies by plan, so we recommend confirming your individual nutrition benefits and coverage before your appointment.
We can provide you with the billing codes we use so your insurance provider can tell you what your coverage will be.
15. What if I'm nervous or unsure about reaching out?
That's okay! Reaching out doesn't mean you need to have everything figured out or know exactly what kind of support you need.
The first step is simply an opportunity to share a little about what you're looking for and learn more about what your options may be.
